Hi Guys, wondering if anyone can tell me how to check the transmission/hydraulic fluid in this tractor?
I just got it used and didn't get an operators manual! My dad has an L2900 and it has a sight window on the Rear rock shaft region to see the fluid level. This is an older machine than that one and doesn't have that sight window. At the top of the rock shaft where the oil fill cap would be, they ran the power-beyond line from the added rear remotes into it, so if this is where the dipstick would have been, how can I now check the fluid?
Problem really is, I have a small leak wear the glide-shift shaft turns at the bottom of the trans, I think that there's probably an O-ring that is deteriorated some, but until I get a parts manual to see, I'm just guessing. Anyway, it doesn't seem to leak when running, just sitting overnight it will leave a film of oil about the size of a dollar bill on the concrete. I know I need to fix this, but in the mean time want to make sure fluid level is correct. Any help available is appreciated. Same series machines were the L2950 and L3650, I'd guess they were the same as far as how the FLuid level is checked.
By the way, tractor operates fine, little slow/delayed when sliding between gears, but loader and 3ph seem not affected.

Spot ON Gearhead! Thank You!
I could have stared at that for an hour and not picked up on the viewer in that back corner of the deck.
Merry Xmas.

the early model GST's were slower then the new models to shift between gears. When cold they might even come to a stop before engaging with the next higher gear. It is important to have the correct oil super UDT in this transmission for the tightest shift. ....

Thanks for your recommendations on the OIL. The fellow that I bought this from told me ALL fluids and filters were changed this past summer. The hydraulic filter has the hours marked on it at 1090. The tractor now has 1173. After finding the sight window, the fluid level is fine, if anything maybe a little overfull. Previous owner didn't do the work himself, and wasn't sure what type of fluid was used, seems a shame to dump 7 Gallons of 100hr old hydraulic fluid. I wish Kubota would have colored their SUDT so that it could be identified by sight.
Anyway, I think I'll experiment a little by working the tractor up to operating temp and seeing if the trans shifts get quicker with warmer(thinner) fluid. Otherwise this thing really is a beast. It seems to be much torquier than my dad's L2900. Stuffing the loader into a dirt pile at 1600RPM's and 2nd gear the tractor won't even think about stalling or lugging, it just chug's the tires into the ground trying to go forward. Not sure you could begin to stall this thing.
